Golf Courses in West Sussex: A Visitor's Guide

West Sussex has around 25 operating golf courses, with visitor green fees ranging from £12 for a 9-hole pay-and-play in Horsham to over £200 for a Saturday Two-Ball at the heathland classic outside Pulborough. The county covers downland, heathland, parkland, woodland, and one true links. The question that matters more than course type is whether you can actually play this week, and at what cost.

This guide groups every visitor-friendly course in West Sussex by access, not by prestige. If you are a member of a local club, you already know where you play. This is for visitors, casuals, beginners, and anyone trying to choose where to spend a green fee.

Visitor-welcome members clubs

These are member-owned clubs that take visitor bookings at a published green fee. Booking ahead is essential. Some restrict weekend access to afternoons; some require a handicap certificate; the entries below say which.

West Sussex Golf Club, Pulborough

The county's most prestigious golf address, recognised as one of the best heathland courses in England. The club describes the course as "one of the most natural and aesthetically pleasing heathland courses in England". For once, the language is sourced rather than puffed.

Visitor access is real but slow. The booking system is not open to visitors; you must phone or email the Pro Shop. Outside the 14-day window, visitor times are limited to 14:30 and 14:37; more open up inside 14 days. The club also expects visitors to be members of a recognised golf club holding a current handicap, with a handicap certificate possibly required at check-in. This is not a place to learn the game.

Visitor green fees (verified April 2026): Two-Ball Mon–Thu £175pp high season (1 Apr – 31 Oct), £200pp Sat–Sun. Low season Two-Ball drops to £135pp Mon–Thu / £150pp Sat–Sun.

Key Information

Location: Golf Club Lane, Wiggonholt, Pulborough, RH20 2EN
When: Visitor times limited; book through Pro Shop only
Price: Two-Ball from £135pp low season, from £175pp high season
Parking: Members and visitors on site

Top Tip: Heathland golf is a specific style: tight, undulating, framed by gorse and pine. If you have only ever played parkland, the look and the bounce will surprise you. Worth the price for a player who handles a draw well.

Goodwood Golf Club, Chichester

Two contrasting 18-hole courses on the Goodwood estate. The Downs is genuine downland, designed by James Braid in 1914 and recently renovated by Tom Mackenzie. Fast-running fairways, undulating greens, dramatic elevation changes. The Park winds through 18th-century parkland around Goodwood House, designed by Donald Steel. There is also The Copse, a 6-hole short course (50–90 yards per hole) opened in 2024, which the club itself describes as "scoring is optional, music is encouraged and fun is compulsory".

Visitor green fees are not published on the Goodwood site. Tee bookings exist but the platform is login-gated, and the visible "Downs Experience" packages run £119–£395 per person depending on group size and inclusions. Phone or email for current visitor rates.

Key Information

Location: Kennel Hill, Chichester, PO18 0PN
When: Visitor tee times via login-gated booking; experiences and society packages available
Price: Visitor green fees not published. Phone for current rates. Downs Experience packages from £119pp
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The Copse is the most relaxed entry into the Goodwood experience and the best option for a player who is rusty or learning. The two big courses suit confident handicap golfers with the budget for a destination round.

Cowdray Park Golf Club, Midhurst

A South Downs estate course set within the 16,500-acre Cowdray Estate. The club itself does not call the course downland, heathland, or parkland. It just describes the South Downs National Park backdrop. The headline 18-hole course is par 70, 6,331 yards, and there is a 5-hole par-3 academy course alongside that needs no booking.

Visitor access is straightforward and well-priced for a destination club. Membership is full for the 2026/27 season, which is irrelevant if you are visiting but matters if you were considering joining.

Visitor green fees (verified April 2026, high season Mar–Sep): 18-hole £120 before 14:00, £80 after. The 5-hole par-3 is a flat £18, no booking required.

Key Information

Location: Cowdray Park, Midhurst, GU29 0BB
When: Open daily 7am–6pm. 18-hole tee times must be booked; par-3 walk-up
Price: 18-hole £80–£120; par-3 £18
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The clearest beginner offer in the West Sussex set. The par-3 plus on-site PGA coaching ("complete beginners to the more experienced players", in the club's own wording) makes Cowdray usable by a new golfer in a way most members' clubs aren't. Bring a partner who is rusty and book the par-3 plus a coaching slot.

Mannings Heath Golf Club, Horsham

Two courses on a Sussex wine estate, with a no-handicap-required visitor policy that sets it apart from most members' clubs. The headline Waterfall Course is 6,683 yards, designed by Harry Colt in 1905, with woodland-lined fairways and streams running through 11 holes. The Kingfisher is a 9-hole course opened in 1996, completable in under two hours.

The club explicitly welcomes anyone "stepping onto the fairway for the first time" alongside seasoned players. Pricing tiers reflect that, with a low-cost off-peak rate as well as a peak rate.

Visitor green fees (verified April 2026): Waterfall standard rate (year-round, off-peak) 18 holes Mon–Fri £25 / Sat–Sun £30. Peak season (1 May – 31 Oct) Mon–Fri £70 after 11:00, twilight (after 16:00) £40. Kingfisher rates listed but not displayed at time of fact-check. Phone-confirm.

Key Information

Location: Hammerpond Road, Mannings Heath, Horsham, RH13 6PG
When: Visitor bookings open; no handicap requirement
Price: Waterfall off-peak from £25 weekday; peak from £40 twilight
Parking: On site (Mannings Heath Wine Estate)

Top Tip: The strongest combination of access and price in the West Sussex middle tier. No handicap gate, an Academy Membership "tailored especially for beginners", and the Kingfisher 9-holer for a quick round.

Ham Manor Golf Club, Angmering

A Harry Colt parkland course between the Sussex coast and the South Downs. Par 70, 6,280 yards from the white tees, with a strong academy story. Ham Manor Academy is described by the club itself as "a flexible, supportive, and affordable introduction to golf, tailored especially for beginners and improvers".

Visitor access has clear restrictions: juniors and students after midday Mon–Fri only; County Card holders Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday after 1pm only. The headline visitor rate is flat year-round, no seasonal split.

Visitor green fees (verified April 2026, 2026/27 rates): Weekday 18 £70; weekend 18 £80; twilight from 4pm £40 (both days); junior/student with ID £25; member's guest £38.

Key Information

Location: West Drive, Angmering, BN16 4JE
When: Visitor bookings via Pro Shop or online; junior and County Card restrictions apply
Price: Weekday 18 £70, weekend 18 £80, junior £25
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The £25 junior rate is rare for a Colt-designed course. If you are introducing a teenager to proper parkland golf, this is the value pick.

Littlehampton Golf Club

The only true links course on this list. Founded 1889. The club's own homepage describes it as "a true links experience", and it is, with the dunes and sea lending real wind to most rounds. Par 70, 6,226 yards off the white tees.

Visitor access is open but time-gated: weekday tee times after 10am, weekend after 11am. No published handicap requirement. Year-round flat fees, no seasonal split.

Visitor green fees (verified April 2026): Weekday 18 £65, weekend/bank holiday 18 £75, weekday twilight (after 3pm) £40, junior 18 (year-round) £25.

Key Information

Location: 170 Rope Walk, Riverside West, Littlehampton, BN17 5DL
When: Weekday after 10am; weekend after 11am
Price: Weekday £65, weekend £75, junior £25
Parking: On site

Top Tip: If you have only played inland courses, links golf is a different game. The wind matters more than the yardage. Pick a calm day for your first visit.

Worthing Golf Club

Two 18-hole courses on the slopes of the South Downs above Worthing. The Lower (Colt) Course at par 71 / 6,505 yards, and the Upper (Vardon) Course at par 66 / 5,211 yards. The club has unaccompanied visitor restrictions: "Unaccompanied visitors are restricted until after 1pm at weekends".

Several of the club's visitor pages are protected against direct fetch, so the published fee table could not be fully verified at time of writing. Cross-referenced figures suggest weekday Lower Course £50, member's guest £25, County Card £30, with the Upper Course lower. Juniors under 18 receive a 50% discount per the club's own wording.

Key Information

Location: Links Road, Worthing, BN14 9QZ
When: Unaccompanied visitors restricted until after 1pm at weekends
Price: Lower from around £50 weekday; Upper lower; junior 50% off. Phone Pro Shop on 01903 260718 to confirm 2026 tariff
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The Upper Course is a genuine rarity: par 66, 5,211 yards, perfect for a player short on time or a couple where one is rusty. Most clubs that sell two courses push the long one; here the short one is its own thing.

Bognor Regis Golf Club

A James Braid-designed members' club in Felpham, Bognor. Visitor bookings open every Thursday for the following week, across all 7 days, but availability is described by the club as "limited". Course is par 70, 6,103 yards from the white tees.

Visitor green fees (verified directly, last updated 25 February 2026): Mon–Fri £60, £37 twilight (from 3pm), £45 County Card, £20 under-18. Sat–Sun and bank holidays £70, £42 twilight.

Key Information

Location: Downview Road, Felpham, Bognor Regis, PO22 8JD
When: Visitor tee times release every Thursday for the following week
Price: Weekday £60, weekend £70, under-18 £20
Parking: On site

Top Tip: Strong under-18 rate at £20 makes this a workable family round if a younger player is the focus. Confirmed-rate transparency from the club is also unusually good.

Chichester Golf Club, Hunston

A multi-course site near Chichester with the strongest set of practice and beginner facilities in the county. Three courses: the Cathedral Course (parkland, with water on several holes), the Tower Course (par 71, MacKenzie greens), and a 9-hole par-3 short course. Plus a TrackMan-equipped driving range, a Golf Academy with a 4-week "Get into Golf" beginner programme, FootGolf, and adventure golf.

Visitor bookings must be made and paid for in advance. The Tower and Par 3 courses have no minimum age. Cross-referenced visitor green fees (the live fee table did not render to direct fetch): Cathedral £25 weekday / £30 weekend / £18–£20 twilight; Tower from £28 weekday / £18 twilight. Re-verify before arrival.

Key Information

Location: Hunston Village, Chichester, PO20 1AX
When: Pay in advance via online booking; multiple courses, multiple sessions daily
Price: Cathedral from £25, Tower from £28, twilight from £18
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The widest range of "ways into golf" in West Sussex. A family with mixed abilities can split between the Par 3 (no minimum age), the driving range, and the Tower with no friction. Worth a half-day rather than a single round.

Selsey Golf Club

A 9-hole links-type course on the Selsey peninsula, played as par 68 over 18 using dual tee positions. The club itself calls it "pay and play". Smart attire required (no denim, no collarless shirts, no tracksuits).

Visitor green fees (verified directly): Weekday 18 £36, weekend 18 £40, weekday twilight £28, juniors under 18 £19 (18) / £12 (9). County Card weekday £32.

Key Information

Location: Golf Links Lane, Selsey, PO20 9DR
When: Open daily; pay-and-play welcome
Price: Weekday £36, weekend £40, junior £19
Parking: On site

Top Tip: Coastal, breezy, manageable in length: a good first 18-hole round for a player stepping up from a par-3. The dress code is real: jeans will get you turned around at the door.

Pyecombe Golf Club

A James Braid downland course on Clayton Hill, opened 1894. The club is unambiguous about course type: "one of Sussex's finest downland golf courses". Visitors welcome Mon–Fri all day and from midday at weekends. Booking via BRS Golf or the Pro Shop, up to 5 days in advance.

The fee page did not render to direct fetch; cross-referenced midweek rates are around £25–£30, weekend around £32–£35. Re-verify before booking.

Key Information

Location: Clayton Hill, Pyecombe, BN45 7FF
When: Mon–Fri all day, weekends from midday
Price: Around £25–£30 midweek, £32–£35 weekend. Confirm with club
Parking: On site

Top Tip: Downland golf has a specific feel: views, exposure, a bit of climb. Not a course for a windy day if you are new to the style.

Singing Hills Golf Course, Albourne

A 27-hole parkland course set up as three 9-hole loops (Lake, River, Valley), playable in any combination. Designer Richard Hird; River and Valley opened 1992, Lake added 1993. Visitors must check into the Pro Shop before playing. Dress code: collared shirt, no jeans or sportswear.

Visitor green fees (verified, Spring/Summer 30 Mar – 25 Oct 2026): 9 holes £25 weekday / £30 weekend, 18 holes £45 weekday / £55 weekend, 27 holes £55 weekday / £65 weekend. Off-peak weekday after 2pm £22 (9) / £33 (18).

Key Information

Location: Muddleswood Road, Albourne, BN6 9EB
When: Open daily; check in at Pro Shop before play
Price: 9 holes £25–£30, 18 holes £45–£55, 27 holes £55–£65
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The 9-hole loop format makes it easy to walk away after 9 if your group's energy or weather changes. A 14-bay TopTracer driving range alongside means a session warm-up is built in.

Slinfold Golf & Country Club

A members' club near Horsham set in woodland and mature parkland (the club's own wording). Main course 6,424 yards from the white tees. Plus a 9-hole Par 3 Academy Course. Two PGA pros on site for coaching, equipment fitting via Eclipse Golf.

Several of the visitor and course pages returned 404 at time of writing, including the green-fee table. Cross-referenced figures are around £25–£30 per 18 holes with weekend examples around £35. Phone 01403 791154 to confirm.

Key Information

Location: Stane Street, Slinfold, Horsham, RH13 0RE
When: Visitor bookings open; phone or web form
Price: From around £25–£30. Confirm with club
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The 9-hole Par 3 Academy course is a standout option for a quick afternoon session or a beginner partner. Two PGA pros on site means a lesson can be added easily.

Cottesmore Hotel, Golf & Country Club

A hotel-attached site near Pease Pottage with two courses: the Griffin (18-hole parkland, the club's own description: "a classic parkland course with beautiful trees and vistas with water on several holes") and the Phoenix (9-hole, framed as "a great introduction to golf… much more forgiving"). Plus a Cottesmore Performance Studio with a GCQuad launch monitor.

Green fees are not published on the public site. Phone the pro shop on 01293 861777.

Key Information

Location: Buchan Hill, Pease Pottage, Crawley, RH11 9AT
When: Open all day to members, hotel guests, and visitors
Price: Not published. Phone pro shop
Parking: On site (hotel)

Top Tip: The Phoenix is one of the better explicit beginner offers in the county. The club itself markets it as a route in. Worth combining with a coaching slot booked through the pro shop.

Haywards Heath Golf Club

A traditional parkland course with views over the South Downs. The club markets itself as having 19 holes (18 plus an extra). Strong practice setup: a 260-yard all-weather driving range, three short-game areas, custom-fit studio, and a TrackMan range.

Visitor green fees (verified, from 1 April 2026): Adult summer weekday £60, weekend after 12pm £70, weekday twilight (4pm+) £45. Adult winter weekday £45, weekend after 12pm £45, twilight £40. Junior £30 year-round.

Key Information

Location: High Beech Lane, Haywards Heath, RH16 1SL
When: Visitor bookings via online portal
Price: Summer weekday £60, weekend £70, junior £30 year-round
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The £30 junior rate is consistent year-round, which makes it useful for families building a habit. Range tech is unusually good for the price tier.

Ifield Golf Club, Crawley

A mature parkland course, founded 1927. Par 70, 6,319 yards. Visitor bookings open 10 days ahead.

Visitor green fees 2026 (verified): Summer (27 Apr – 27 Sep 2026) Mon £35–£45 (18) / £30 (9); Tue–Fri £35–£50 (18) / £30 (9); Sat–Sun £35–£50 (18) / £30–£35 (9). Winter weekday £27.50–£33 (18) / £22 (9).

Key Information

Location: Rusper Road, Ifield, Crawley, RH11 0LN
When: Visitor bookings open 10 days ahead
Price: Summer £35–£50 weekday, £35–£50 weekend; winter from £27.50
Parking: On site

Top Tip: Pricing is lowest of the Crawley-area members' clubs. Workable for a casual mid-week round.

Lindfield Golf Club

A parkland course designed by Patrick Tallack, founded 1990. Plays to par 70 over 5,957 yards off the white tees. Visitors and societies welcome seven days a week; club explicitly says "a warm welcome is guaranteed". Practice setup is strong: a 24-bay covered driving range, large putting green, and a chipping/pitching area near the 18th with a practice bunker.

Visitor green fees (standard): Weekday 18 £30, weekend 18 £35. Club notes preferential rates may be available depending on time of year. Phone for current.

Key Information

Location: East Mascalls Lane, Lindfield, Haywards Heath, RH16 2QN
When: Visitors welcome 7 days a week
Price: Weekday £30, weekend £35
Parking: On site

Top Tip: £30 weekday for a full parkland 18 is one of the better mid-Sussex value plays. The 24-bay range alongside means a warm-up is straightforward.

Avisford Park Golf Club, Walberton

A hotel-attached parkland course set in 89 acres of gardens and parkland near Arundel. 18 holes, 5,800 yards.

Visitor green fees: Visiting Golfer from £44 (18) / £27 (9); Guest of Member from £33 (18) / £22 (9); Junior under 17 £20.

Key Information

Location: Yapton Lane, Walberton, Arundel, BN18 0LS
When: Phone or GolfNow booking
Price: Visiting from £44 (18), £27 (9); junior £20
Parking: On site (hotel)

Top Tip: Useful as part of a hotel stay near Arundel rather than as a destination round. Course is shorter than most members' clubs in the area, which suits a less powerful player.

Pay-and-play venues

These are walk-up-friendly courses where membership is not required and visitors are the main audience. Tee times bookable online; turn up, pay, play.

Tilgate Forest Golf Centre, Crawley

An 18-hole woodland course owned by Crawley Borough Council, run by Glendale Golf. Par 72. Tee times exclusively yours: no pairing-up. Pay-and-play, no membership required. Recognised in Golf World's Top 100.

Driving range with Toptracer technology (29 bays per the operator, 35 per the council page; both numbers appear in print, so something has changed). Range open 9am–9pm.

Visitor green fees: From £22.50 per person; lowest-price guarantee online.

Key Information

Location: Titmus Drive, Tilgate, Crawley, RH10 5EU
When: Pay-and-play, book online
Price: From £22.50; club rentals £10
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The combination of a council-owned 18-hole course, Toptracer range, and bookable tee times makes this the most-used pay-and-play in the county. Book the range and the round together for a half-day.

Rookwood Golf Course, Warnham

An 18-hole pay-and-play course owned by Horsham District Council, plus a 9-hole pitch and putt ("Pitch 'n' Putt – Great Family Fun"). Course is described as a mix of "gently undulating parkland and mature woodland". Par 72, 6,200 yards.

No membership fee; visitors turn up, pay, walk to the first tee. Footgolf also offered. Open every day 8am–dusk except Christmas Day.

Visitor green fees (sample): Twilight Tuesday £24 anytime; emergency services / armed forces £29 weekday / £32 weekend. Full schedule on the booking platform.

Key Information

Location: Robin Hood Lane, Warnham, Horsham, RH12 3RR
When: Daily 8am–dusk; pay-and-play
Price: From around £22–£25 depending on day
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The pitch and putt is the best family-with-young-children offer in West Sussex golf. A 6-year-old can hit a real hole here. Footgolf adds a non-golfer option for the same trip.

Hill Barn Golf Club, Worthing

Worthing's other course on the downland slope above town, distinct from Worthing Golf Club, despite the proximity. Bought from Worthing Borough Council in 2003 and "still retains its pay and play aspect". Par 70, 6,229 yards. Visitors welcome every day. No handicap required. "Get Into Golf" programme on offer.

The club's current site does not display a fee table; cross-referenced figures suggest £18.50–£24.50 per 18 holes, but those numbers may be stale. Phone 01903 237301 to confirm 2026 fees.

Key Information

Location: Hill Barn Lane, Worthing, BN14 9QF
When: Visitors welcome daily
Price: Around £20. Phone to confirm 2026 rates
Parking: On site

Top Tip: Probably the cheapest 18-hole round in West Sussex if the older fee structure still holds. Don't confuse with Worthing Golf Club: different car park, different club, different game.

Cuckfield Golf Centre

A 9-hole course played as 9 or 18 (with 18 separate tees) plus a 6-bay driving range with Trackman technology installed October 2025. Resident PGA pros for coaching. Cancellations need 24 hours notice.

Visitor green fees (May 2026): 9 holes £22.75 / 18 holes £34.50 (May–Oct). Twilight Adult £19.50, junior under 10 £12.50.

Key Information

Location: Staplefield Road, Cuckfield, Haywards Heath, RH17 5HY
When: Open year-round; "playable in all conditions"
Price: 9 holes £22.75, 18 holes £34.50, junior £12.50
Parking: On site

Top Tip: £12.50 for a junior is cheap, and the Trackman bays mean a parent can coach or use the data while a child plays. Flexible memberships if it becomes a habit.

Rustington Golf Centre

A par 68 course playable as 9 or 18 (two tee positions per hole), plus a substantial driving range: 28 floodlit covered bays, 5 outdoor, 20 of which are Toptracer. Foresight golf simulators in the Clubroom. No dress code on the range. Hire clubs available.

Key Information

Location: Golfers Lane, Angmering, BN16 4NB
When: Course Mon–Sun 07:30–20:00; range hours longer
Price: Range walk-in 25 balls £6 / 50 balls £8.50 / 125 balls £12.50
Parking: On site
Website: rgcgolf.com

Top Tip: The most beginner-friendly venue near the Worthing-Arun coastal strip. No dress code at the range and hire clubs available means a complete first-timer can show up with nothing and leave having hit balls.

For beginners, families, or a quick round

These venues are par-3, pitch and putt, or driving range only. Best for absolute beginners, families with young children, or anyone short on time.

Burgess Hill Golf Centre, Championship Par-3 Course

A 9-hole par-3 course alongside a 28-bay floodlit, undercover driving range. The club's own pitch: "Everyone Welcome to Play; There are no members so no one should feel any pressure when playing." Five PGA-qualified instructors on site, 7 days a week. No advance booking: turn up and play.

Visitor green fees: Adult £17.50 (9 holes); Senior £16; Junior under 16 £15. (A previous-rate £16 / £22 schedule also appears, so phone to confirm headline.)

Key Information

Location: Cuckfield Road, Burgess Hill, RH15 8RE
When: Mon–Thu 09:00–21:30, Fri 09:00–20:30, Sat–Sun 08:00–19:30
Price: £15–£17.50 for 9 holes; range pay-as-you-go
Parking: On site

Top Tip: The honest "no members, no pressure" framing matches the reality. A first-time golfer can walk in, hit a bucket, then play 9 holes for under £25 total. Hard to beat in the county.

Horsham Golf & Fitness, The Firs Course (par-3)

A 9-hole par-3 short course at Denne Hill, par 27, 959 yards, individual holes 60–154 yards. Pay-and-play, no booking. Adults £12, juniors 16 and under £10, the lowest entry-point fee in West Sussex.

Alongside is the Oaks (full-length 18, online tee times £34–£48 depending on time) and a 16-bay covered, heated, floodlit driving range described by the operator as the first range in the UK with both Awesome Golf and FlightScope tech in every bay. Two USGA-spec practice greens with practice bunker. MY Golf Academy with PGA coaches.

Key Information

Location: Worthing Road, Horsham, RH13 0AX
When: Range open 8:30am–9pm weekdays; weekend hours seasonal
Price: Firs £10–£12 (9 holes); Oaks online £34–£48; range balls from £6
Parking: On site

Top Tip: £12 for a 9-hole round at a real par-3 is the cheapest way into golf in West Sussex. The site's own "Beginner's Guide to Golf booklet" download is genuinely useful for first-timers.

If you have never played a full round before: start at Burgess Hill, Horsham Firs, or Cowdray's par-3 academy. None require booking; all are under £20; all have on-site coaching available. Add Cuckfield if you want a proper 9-hole loop with a junior alongside.

If you are a casual player wanting a sensible weekday 18: Hill Barn (cheapest, around £20, confirm), Lindfield (£30, 24-bay range alongside), or Tilgate Forest (£22.50, council pay-and-play with Toptracer). Cuckfield's £34.50 18-hole rate is also workable if you prefer playing the same 9 twice with different tees.

If you are a confident handicap golfer planning a destination round: Goodwood (phone for fees, but the Downs is the headline experience), West Sussex GC (heathland classic, expensive, certificate required), Cowdray (£80–£120, easier access than the other two), Ham Manor (£70 weekday, Colt parkland, junior rate generous).

If you want one true links round in West Sussex: Littlehampton is the only choice. Pick a calm day; the wind matters more than the yardage.

Practical information

Visitor green fees in West Sussex range from £10 (Horsham Firs junior 9-hole) to over £200 (West Sussex GC Sat–Sun Two-Ball, high season). Most members' clubs sit between £30 and £80 for a weekday round.

Booking platforms vary widely. Common ones include intelligentgolf, ClubV1, BRS Golf, Elite Live, and individual club platforms. The Pro Shop will always book a tee time by phone if you cannot find a slot online.

Handicap certificates are required at West Sussex Golf Club. Most other members' clubs do not enforce this in 2026, but a few may ask at check-in. Phone first if you are uncertain. Pay-and-play and par-3 venues never require a handicap.

The County Card is a Sussex Golf concession that earns reduced visitor green fees at affiliated clubs. Most of the members' clubs in this guide accept it, with rates typically £25–£50 lower than the standard visitor fee.

Dress codes apply at members' clubs and at some pay-and-play venues (Singing Hills, Selsey both require collared shirts and exclude jeans). Driving ranges generally have no dress code.

Society golf packages are available at most members' clubs (typically minimum 12 players, weekdays only, with a discount on the standard visitor rate).

Visitor green fees and visitor policies were verified against each club's own website between 24 and 28 April 2026. Where a club page was protected against direct fetch or the fee table did not render, the body text says so explicitly and recommends a phone confirmation. Fees and policies change regularly: always check the venue's own site or phone the Pro Shop before travelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play golf in West Sussex without being a member of a club?

Yes. Most members' clubs in West Sussex accept visitor bookings at a published green fee. There are also five pay-and-play venues (Tilgate Forest, Rookwood, Hill Barn, Cuckfield, Horsham Golf & Fitness) where membership is not required. Booking ahead is recommended for the members' clubs; the pay-and-play venues are walk-up-friendly.

What is the cheapest way to play 18 holes in West Sussex?

Hill Barn in Worthing has historically been the cheapest at around £20 for 18 holes (confirm the current rate by phone). Tilgate Forest in Crawley starts from £22.50. For 9 holes, Burgess Hill Par-3 is £15–£17.50 and Horsham Firs (par-3) is £12 adult / £10 junior, the cheapest entry-points to golf in the county.

Which West Sussex golf courses are best for absolute beginners?

Burgess Hill Par-3 (no members, beginners welcome), Horsham Firs (par-3, walk-up, £12), Cowdray Park's 5-hole par-3 (£18, no booking, on-site PGA coaching), Cottesmore Phoenix (9-hole "introduction to golf"), and Cuckfield (junior £12.50, flexible memberships). Mannings Heath has a no-handicap-required visitor policy on the main Waterfall course, which is unusual for a members' club.

Do I need a handicap certificate to play golf in West Sussex?

Only at West Sussex Golf Club is a handicap certificate explicitly required and possibly checked at the door. Most other members' clubs do not enforce this in 2026, though a few may ask. Pay-and-play and par-3 venues never require a handicap. If unsure, phone the club before you go.

Are there any true links golf courses in West Sussex?

One. Littlehampton Golf Club describes itself as "a true links experience": founded 1889, par 70, 6,226 yards. Selsey is a 9-hole "links-type" course (the club's own term). All other West Sussex courses are inland: parkland, downland, heathland, woodland.
