Book it for the included shows and the 8pm finale, not on the assumption that every attraction a child can see is free.

What Ardingly Summerfest costs for a family
General Release is on sale now and Early Release has sold out. Eventbrite booking and administration fees apply to advance tickets, but the organiser does not publish one fixed fee total. Check the final checkout price before paying.

The family ticket is specifically for two adults and two children. At current prices it saves £5.60 against buying those four tickets individually. It does not help a one-adult family, so calculate your actual group rather than assuming the product labelled “family” is automatically cheapest.
Later Final Release prices are listed at £16 per child, £32 per adult and £89.60 for a family ticket. If tickets remain on the day, the advertised gate prices are £20 per child and £40 per adult, with the booking fee included. No gate family ticket is listed.
Infants aged 0 to 2 enter free. The event-specific pages describe the day as suitable for toddlers and offer infant admission, which is the stated exception to a generic clause in the organiser’s terms about children under five. Everyone under 18 must attend with an adult aged 18 or over.
What is included in the ticket?
The strongest included value is in the performances. The organiser lists the Swamp Thing monster truck show, Bolddog FMX, Paul Hannam ATV stunts, falconry, a trampoline show, parkour displays and coaching, magic, tribute music and the colour-smoke and fireworks finale.

Hot-air balloon displays are advertised as included, but they are weather dependent. The organiser says balloons cannot safely inflate in rain or breezy conditions, even when it looks sunny. If full inflation is not possible, pilots aim to provide a burner-only night glow where conditions allow. It is not possible to book a hot-air balloon flight or ride.
Which attractions cost extra?
The official event information page lists these separately from the included programme:

Fairground rides are advertised at a discounted £2 per ride until 2pm. The later price is not published. If two children take three discounted rides each, that is another £12 before any other extra.
Helicopter flights start at £54.75 per person, on top of the Summerfest entry ticket. The listed minimum age is six and the maximum passenger weight is 114kg.
There is one muddled piece of organiser wording. The homepage says the Discovery Kids Zone is included and mentions inflatables, face painting and circus workshops. The event information page separately lists the Time 2 Bounce inflatable park and face painting as paid extras. The safe plan is to treat the core zone and circus workshop as included, but budget separately for the named add-ons until the organiser publishes a clearer breakdown.

Which ages will get the most from it?
The event is marketed to all ages, but an eight-hour outdoor day will not work equally well for every child.
Toddlers and pre-school children
Infants aged 0 to 2 are free, and the included programme has bubbles, roaming performers, a land train and circus activities. The difficult parts are the length and noise. Monster trucks, FMX, colour smoke and fireworks can be intense, while the finale does not arrive until 8pm.
Plan a shorter visit if needed and consider ear defenders. Re-entry is not guaranteed after leaving, so do not base the day around a nap back at the car.
Primary-school children
This is the broadest fit. Children old enough to alternate between arena shows, workshops and the fairground have the best chance of using the included programme while still enjoying one or two carefully budgeted extras.
Set the extras limit before arrival. The paid rides and stalls are visible early in the day, so “we will decide later” is likely to become the expensive option.
Older children and teenagers
The stunt displays, tribute acts, fairground and helicopter option give older children more to choose from than a conventional village fete. WSW tip: choose Summerfest for the included arena programme first. If the child’s main request is unlimited rides or inflatables, the published ticket does not promise that.
How to pace noon to 8pm
Exact act times are not yet published, so a rigid itinerary would be fiction. A practical plan is to use four phases:
- Arrive before noon. The car park opens at 11:30am. Enter with a fixed extras budget and use any £2 fairground rides you genuinely want before 2pm.
- Prioritise arena shows in the afternoon. Check the official screens or printed guide as soon as you arrive, then circle the two or three performances the family most wants to see.
- Use a quieter food break. Bring a picnic to control both cost and queue time, or use the food village. The covered areas are useful if the weather turns.
- Reassess before the finale. The fireworks are at 8pm. For younger children, decide whether the late finish and noise are worth it rather than forcing the full eight hours.
One warning about the finish time. The organiser's schedule and the Eventbrite listing both end the day with the 8pm fireworks, but the Showground's own event page lists Summerfest as noon to 5:30pm. We have used 8pm because that is what the organiser and the booking page say, and the fireworks are on the published running order. If you are planning around a lift home or a babysitter, the 8pm finish is the one to work to, not the venue listing.
The organiser can change acts and times. Check the official Summerfest schedule again before travelling and use the on-site running order on the day.
Food, chairs and what to bring
Small picnics and snacks are allowed for personal use. The event also advertises an artisan food village, bars, ice-cream vans and fairground vendors.
Outside alcohol is prohibited, and bag searches will operate. Alcohol bought off site may be confiscated.
You may bring:
- a small picnic
- folding chairs
- a picnic blanket
- sun cream and a waterproof layer
- ear defenders for noise-sensitive children
Gazebos need a separate pitch permit, must be no larger than 3m by 3m and can only be erected in designated areas. Overnight parking and camping are not permitted.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in most outdoor areas, and assistance dogs are always welcome. The organiser specifically warns visitors to consider the loud arena displays and fireworks before bringing a pet.
Weather, balloons and fireworks
Summerfest is scheduled to run in most weather. The organiser says the main stage, arena seating and food village have covered areas, but this is still an outdoor event and not every movement between attractions will be dry.
Hot-air balloon activity is the part most likely to disappear in poor conditions. Do not make the balloons the sole reason for booking. The 8pm colour-smoke and fireworks finale is in the current schedule, but all outdoor entertainment remains subject to safe conditions and programme changes.

Parking, trains and the two postcodes
Summerfest tells drivers to use RH17 6TH for sat nav. The Showground’s normal postal address is South of England Showground, Selsfield Road, Ardingly, West Sussex, RH17 6TL. Both postcodes appear on official sources, but RH17 6TH is the event-specific navigation instruction.
Advance parking is £5 and the car park opens at 11:30am. The organiser says gate parking may be available at a higher price, subject to availability.
When we checked on 28 July 2026, the Summerfest parking button redirected to an unrelated South Cerney event page. The organiser may since have fixed it. Look for the parking add-on during the Eventbrite booking flow or contact the organiser before driving. Do not assume an admission ticket includes a parking space.
Haywards Heath is the nearest mainline station. The venue says the 272 bus stops near the entrance, but calls the service very limited. A taxi or pre-booked transfer from the station is the more predictable car-free plan.
Accessibility
The Summerfest getting-there page describes the Showground as largely flat, with accessible routes between the main areas. The venue adds that it has a network of paved roads and ramp access to buildings.
Accessible toilets are listed at the central Eco-Toilet Block, Red Gate, Blue Gate, Norfolk Pavilion and Queen’s Jubilee Hall, which is close to the Green Gate entrance. The Norfolk Pavilion has a lift to the first floor.
Event-specific arrangements can vary by organiser. Be careful not to read across from the South of England Agricultural Society’s own shows, which do publish free carer entry, mobility-scooter and wheelchair hire, and Blue Badge priority parking. Summerfest is a separate hire by Xplosive Events, and no published Summerfest page confirms a companion ticket, mobility-scooter hire, accessible viewing platform or dedicated Blue Badge parking policy.
