There are over a dozen regular markets in West Sussex, from centuries-old town centre traders to monthly farmers markets selling produce straight from the farm gate. Whether you're after sourdough, locally reared meat, handmade ceramics or just a good wander with a coffee, you'll find a market to suit.

This guide covers every major market in West Sussex with days, times and practical tips, so you always know where to find one near you.

Arundel Farmers Market

This is one of the best in the county. The Arundel Farmers Market takes over the lower High Street on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9am to 1pm, and it's well worth the trip.

Run by Arundel Town Council, it's a proper producers' market where everything is sold direct to you by the people who grew, baked or made it. Expect local fruit and veg, artisan bread, free-range meat, cheeses, flowers, plants, preserves and all manner of food and drink. The quality is consistently high and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.

The lower High Street is closed to traffic on market days from 6am to 3.30pm (from the junction with Tarrant Street down to the Swan Hotel), so there's plenty of room to browse. Buses reroute up Queen Street on market days.

Location: High Street, Arundel, BN18 9AB

When: 3rd Saturday of every month, 9am to 1pm

Parking: Mill Road and Arundel Lido car parks open as usual. Crown Yard accessible via quayside

Dogs: Welcome on leads

Top tip: Next market date is 21 February 2026. Arrive before 10am for the best selection, and bring your own bags.

Arundel Tarrant Square Market

If monthly isn't enough, Arundel also runs a weekly market every Saturday from 9am to 3pm in Tarrant Square. It's smaller and more informal than the farmers market but still a lovely browse, with a mix of fresh produce, craft stalls and live music. A nice excuse to combine a market trip with a walk along the river or a poke around Arundel's antique shops.

Location: Tarrant Square, Arundel

When: Every Saturday, 9am to 3pm

Chichester Farmers Market

Chichester has been a market town since the Romans, and the medieval Market Cross in the centre of town is one of the most photographed landmarks in West Sussex. Today, the Chichester Farmers Market runs on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month in East Street, offering a solid selection of local produce from Sussex farms and food producers.

The general Chichester Market runs every Wednesday in the city centre with a broader mix of goods, from clothing and homeware to flowers and street food. It's been running for decades and has a loyal local following.

Location: East Street (farmers market) / City centre (Wednesday market), Chichester, PO19 1HS

When: Farmers market: 1st and 3rd Friday monthly. General market: every Wednesday

Parking: Chichester has several pay-and-display car parks. Avenue de Chartres and Cattle Market car parks are closest

Top tip: Combine the Friday farmers market with a visit to Pallant House Gallery or a coffee in one of the independent cafes along East Street. It makes for a great morning out.

Horsham Market

Horsham is another historic market town, and the Carfax (the wide, open square in the town centre) is the heart of local life. The Carfax Local Markets run Thursday to Saturday each week, organised by Food Rocks, with a rotating mix of local produce, street food, craft stalls and artisan goods.

Horsham also hosts regular themed markets throughout the year, including a popular Christmas market. The Carfax is a great setting, surrounded by independent shops, restaurants and the 13th-century St Mary's Church.

Location: The Carfax, Horsham, RH12 1EE

When: Carfax Local Markets: Thursday to Saturday weekly

Parking: Several town centre car parks including Forum, Swan Walk and Piries Place

Top tip: If you're visiting the Horsham market with kids, the playground in Horsham Park is a 5-minute walk from the Carfax.

Steyning Farmers Market

The pretty market town of Steyning, tucked between the South Downs and the Adur Valley, hosts a popular Farmers Market on the 1st Saturday of every month in the High Street. It's smaller than Arundel or Chichester but that's part of the charm, and the quality of produce is excellent.

Steyning itself is worth exploring. The High Street is full of independent shops, cafes and pubs, and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous for a walk.

Location: High Street, Steyning, BN44 3YE

When: 1st Saturday of every month

Top tip: Steyning is a brilliant base for South Downs walks. Park in the free car park off Newham Lane and combine the market with a hike up to Steyning Bowl for incredible views.

Petworth Market

Petworth is one of West Sussex's most charming towns, famous for Petworth House (National Trust) and its thriving independent food scene. The town hosts occasional farmers markets and artisan markets in the town square, typically on a Saturday.

The real draw in Petworth, though, is the permanent collection of food shops and delis scattered along the streets. It's a town where market culture and high-street shopping blend together beautifully.

Location: Market Square and surrounding streets, Petworth, GU28 0AH

Parking: Town car park on Pound Street

Top tip: While you're in Petworth, check out the Hungry Guest Bakery for some of the best bread in Sussex. It's right in the centre and usually has a queue, which tells you everything.

Worthing Market

Worthing has a regular market presence, with a general market in Montague Street in the town centre. The market offers a good range of produce and general goods, and it's a nice stop if you're already in town for a day at the seafront.

Worthing also hosts regular food and drink markets and seasonal events on the seafront and in Steyne Gardens, particularly during summer months. Keep an eye on the Worthing Borough Council events calendar for dates.

Location: Montague Street / Town centre, Worthing, BN11 3BN

Parking: Town centre pay-and-display car parks

Shoreham-by-Sea Farmers Market

Shoreham-by-Sea hosts a Farmers Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month at East Street. It's a friendly, community-focused market with a good selection of Sussex produce, and the setting along the River Adur is lovely.

Location: East Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5ZD

When: 2nd Saturday of every month

A Note on Seasonal and Christmas Markets

West Sussex comes alive with seasonal markets from late November through December. Arundel, Petworth, Chichester, Steyning and Horsham all run Christmas markets with gift stalls, food, mulled wine and festive atmosphere. We'll publish a dedicated Christmas Markets guide closer to the season, but it's worth keeping an eye on local listings from October onwards as the best stalls book up quickly.

All market details were correct at the time of writing (February 2026). Market schedules can change, particularly around bank holidays and during bad weather. We recommend checking with the market organisers before travelling, especially for monthly markets.
